Orientation and Advisement
Transfer Student Orientation
Thank you for choosing to join the SIUE family! Orientation is a critical step on your path to becoming a Cougar, and we are excited to help you ease the transition into this next chapter of your educational journey.
TSO is a pre-entry program for admitted transfer students that will introduce you to SIUE. Transfer students and guests will learn more about academic requirements, meet faculty and staff, and gain information essential to a successful first semester. TSO is a half-day program focused on academic expectations, career readiness and overall student success.
After lunch, the rest of the day is yours to tour the campus and Cougar Village Apartments, pick up your Cougar Card student ID, and take care of other university business. Students may bring up to 2 guests. There is a $50 program fee, which includes a student lunch voucher.
Family members, parents, and guests are encouraged to attend Transfer Student Orientation with their student. Gain insight on how to navigate the college experience and find out how you can provide support for your student while at SIUE. There is no additional fee for a family member or guest to attend.
TSO Registration for Summer 2024 is now open!
Accessibility Accommodations for TSO
Accessible parking is available in parking lots for people who properly display a current state-issued disability placard.
Please notify us of your needs for accommodations at least two weeks before your arrival by contacting orientation@siue.edu.
For individuals needing auxiliary aids for communication of physical access accommodations, contact ACCESS at 618-650-3726 or email myaccess@siue.edu at least two weeks before your arrival. Material will be made available in alternative formats upon request.
Schedule Your Advising Appointment
If you have completed two semesters of college and earned a minimum of 24 credit hours post-high school should schedule an advising appointment directly with the academic advising office to schedule a meeting with an academic advisor in your major advising office to register for classes.
Students still exploring what major to select should schedule with the Office of Academic Advising.
Take Your Placement Tests
Students entering the University arrive with varying levels of competence in math, reading, writing, chemistry, and physics. It is important that all students entering the University begin taking courses at a level that is appropriate for their continued success.
Students needing to complete a placement test will receive an email from SIUE Testing Services with more information and instructions to complete the placement tests online.
Placement tests are free of charge and should be completed as soon as possible, but no later than one week prior to attending Orientation.
Free language proficiency exams are available for French, German and Spanish. Tests take approximately 40 minutes and are administered in the Foreign Language Training Center in Peck Hall, Room 2310. Based on exam scores, students are placed in the appropriate language course and may earn up to 16 credit hours. Please contact the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at 618-650-3510 for additional information.
