Message from the Dean
Creativity to Teach, Curiosity to Learn, Courage to Serve, Compassion to Care, in a diverse and complex world, SIUE Nursing: Excellence in Action!
A warm welcome from the SIUE School of Nursing, where inclusivity, creativity, excellence, integrity, collaboration, and compassion are practiced by faculty and staff and instilled in our students. If you are interested in a dynamic career in nursing or in advancing your nursing education, you belong here! Come with me on a brief narrative "tour" of our School of Nursing.
Exciting Pathways to Nursing Degrees
The undergraduate programs include a traditional four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, as well as a direct entry program for qualified high school graduates. The Accelerated BS is designed for second-degree students seeking a career in nursing, and our online RN to BS program provides an exciting journey to the BS degree for those already with an associate degree in nursing.
Our online Master of Science degrees offer the Nurse Educator degree for those aspiring to be nursing faculty or nurse educators in hospital or community settings, and the Health Care and Nursing Administration (HCNA) degree for those interested in leadership and management. We also offer the HCNA/Health Informatics track, a combined track for individuals interested in informatics. Our Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs include Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and Nurse Anesthesia options. A post-master's DNP program is available for master's-prepared advanced practice nurses seeking a practice-focused doctoral degree.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Much has been recently said about the importance of diversity and inclusion, and we are constantly learning how to operationalize this in the School of Nursing. We are committed to creating a diverse faculty, student population, and nursing workforce. Our Student Nurse Achievement Program (SNAP) is one shining example of assisting underrepresented students to a pathway of success. We offer a range of clinical experiences that positively impact the care of underserved populations.
WE CARE Clinic
The School of Nursing is proud to operate the nurse-managed WE CARE Clinic located in East St. Louis. The clinic provides primary wellness care to all individuals two years of age and older, with a focus on underserved populations. The site offers an exceptional interprofessional clinical experience for both undergraduate and advanced practice students.
Clinical Experiences
As a practice profession, meaningful clinical experiences are essential for student learning. You will be able to experience health care in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and multiple community settings. A variety of exciting international experiences are optional. You will also spend clinical time in our state-of-the-art simulation center, where learning and skill development occur in a safe and collaborative atmosphere.
Your Faculty and Staff
Our dedicated faculty come from a rich variety of nursing backgrounds and are committed to your success. They are up-to-date on practice issues, teaching, and curriculum innovation, and are involved in research and scholarship to advance nursing and healthcare. Faculty will help mentor you into your career as lifelong learners! Our knowledgeable student advisors and staff provide a solid foundation in supporting our students each step of the way.
New Home for School of Nursing
Our beautiful new building, the Health Sciences Complex, houses both nursing and pharmacy programs. This dynamic teaching and research center will provide rich opportunities for our nursing programs, simulation experiences, and interprofessional education.
I hope that you have found something that captures your interest and imagination! Please get in touch with us for further information or come to campus for a visit and an in-person tour. You belong! An exciting and stimulating career awaits you.
To alumni, parents, friends of the School of Nursing, faculty emeriti, past faculty and staff: you, too, belong! I hope to meet and get to know many of you.
With Commitment and Sincerity,
Judy Liesveld, PhD, PPCNP-BC, CNE, FAAN
