How do I order my textbooks?
Order your textbooks through Textbook Services once class registration is complete. Search for your required course materials at textbook rental.
Where do I find a list of admission requirements for each program?
Visit the Online Degrees/Programs page. Click the “U” classification next the program. This will take you to the program overview. Then click “Admission/Program Requirements.”
Can I update my profile and password once my application is submitted?
Yes. Within the SIUE Application Center, you may edit the following:
- Change your password anytime
- Select your intended graduate major (this does not change your application, only your general interest)
- Update your phone number
- Subscribing or unsubscribing from certain communications.
What is the application fee?
The non-refundable application fee is $40.00 USD. You will be directed to the online payment gateway upon submitting your application, or you may pay through the SIUE Application Center by clicking the "Application Summary" button. Online payments have an additional $1.10 processing fee.
Where do I pay my application fee after submitting my application?
You may pay your fee with a credit card by accessing the SIUE Application Center and clicking the "Make A Payment" link. The SIUE Bursar Office has additional options as well. Please note the Bursar's office hours.

Is the online application secure?
Yes. Only you or an SIUE processor has the access to your application. Our processors cannot change anything on your application without written permission from you, the student. View additional information on SIUE web security.
I previously attended SIUE. Do I need to request an official transcript?
No. You do not need to submit an official transcript from SIUE and do not need to pay for one to be sent.
Do I need to send a high school/GED transcript?
If you have earned 30 or more college credit hours, a high school/GED transcript is usually not required.
How will my classes transfer?
Transfer credit is determined by the SIUE Transfer Center on a course-by-course basis after a student applies. However, you may use the SIUE Course Equivalency Guide to learn how courses from your institution have transferred in the past. Please visit the SIUE Transfer Center page to learn more about the transfer process.
I sent my transcripts. Why am I still receiving email reminders to complete my application?
Transcripts may take several days to be processed and added to your application file. You may continue to receive reminders until then. However, occasionally, errors do occur when transcripts are sent. If it has been more than five business days, please email online@siue.edu to check on the status of your application.
Are there scholarships available?
Online students may be eligible for SIUE scholarships. Institutional (SIUE) scholarships are only awarded to students who start in the fall term. However, there may be scholarships available through outside organizations. Please visit the Financial Aid Scholarships page to learn more.
When can I start classes?
SIUE offers multiple start points for the online degree programs. Students can start in fall, spring or summer and are also able to start mid-semester in fall (October) and spring (March).
What is the program format?
Classes are generally asynchronous. This means that there is not a class meeting time, and you are able to schedule your course time around your priorities. However, there are still due dates for assignments that must be met throughout the course. Classes may be offered in eight-week and 16-week sessions in fall and spring, five- and 10-week sessions in summer, and three-week sessions in winter.
Do I need to come to campus?
While online students are welcome on campus, most students never need to physically come to campus. Advising sessions are conducted virtually over Zoom. Many campus services may be accessed via phone, email or virtual appointment.
What is asynchronous vs. synchronous?
Asynchronous courses do not have a set class time that requires attendance. While there are due dates for assignments, tests, participation, etc, students do not attend class at a specific time and are able to schedule their work around their daily life. Synchronous courses are online courses that have a set Zoom meeting scheduled and attendance is required.
Can I get credit for my work experience?
Occasionally, SIUE students may receive elective credit for prior work experience that relates directly to the concepts in program coursework. However, this credit varies by program and is not guaranteed. This process occurs after admission. Visit the Credit for Prior Learning page to learn more.
