Tyann Cherry
Assistant Director
Tyann is a passionate and collaborative leader committed to transforming the online student experience. As the Assistant Director, she leads a team of online professionals who guide students every step of the way—from their first inquiry to the moment they proudly graduate. Tyann manages online bachelor's degree programs in Applied Communication, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Integrative Studies, ensuring that every student gets the chance to succeed. Her team’s mission is to make an SIUE education accessible to all, with a focus on student engagement, retention, and success. Tyann holds both a BA and an MA in Media Communications from Webster University, St. Louis. Outside of work, she loves exploring the beauty of Southern Illinois on long hikes, some of her favorite places include Pere Marquette State Park and Shawnee National Forest.
Michelle Black
Coordinator, Online Lead Engagement
Michelle works with students applying to the online bachelor’s degree programs. She is a proud, first-generation college graduate and believes in the power of education to transform lives, families and communities. Michelle is passionate about connecting with students and helping them achieve their educational goals. As an SIUE alumna, she is excited to welcome students into the Cougar family. Michelle earned a BA in English from Truman State University, a JD from Northern Illinois University, an MSW from the University of Georgia and an MSEd from SIUE. Michelle enjoys photography, reading, visiting national parks and cuddling with her cats in her free time.
Nicole Myers
Academic Advisor II
Nicole is student-focused, intentional and culturally responsive to the needs of online degree-seeking adult learners at SIUE. She uses intrusive, appreciative advising practices when meeting with students. Nicole is passionate about helping students reach their level of excellence, all while removing barriers for students to complete their degrees and become change agents in their community. Nicole earned a BS in interdisciplinary study from Harris Stowe State, and an MEd in secondary education and MEd in adult and higher education from the University of Missouri-St.Louis. She is a doctoral candidate at Walden University for an EdD in higher education and adult learning.

Kijoung Na
Academic Advisor II
Kijoung is dedicated to advising online students, drawing on her extensive experience advising both traditional and non-traditional learners in higher education. She is deeply committed to student success, striving not only to manage class schedules but also to serve as a thoughtful mentor for those in need.
In addition to her accomplishments in student advising, Kijoung has gained experience in coordinating exchange and study abroad programs, teaching academic courses, and serving in administrative roles at higher education institutions. She takes great joy in sharing her knowledge and insights to help students thrive.
Kathy Zeman
Student Success Coach
Kathy Zeman is dedicated to empowering students on their educational journey at SIUE. With a focus on holistic support, Kathy believes that every student has the potential to succeed and thrive. She helps students navigate challenges and achieve their academic goals. Kathy received her BS in Communications and her Masters’ in Psychology, Business Administration, and Human Resource Management. With over a decade of experience in student services, she is passionate about fostering an inclusive and encouraging environment. In her free time, Kathy enjoys painting, hiking, learning, and spending quality time with her family.
Michelle Carroll
Coordinator, Prospective Online Student Engagement
Michelle serves as primary point of contact for all prospective online undergraduate degree program students. Michelle responds to all forms of inquiry submissions from prospective online undergraduate degree program students. Michelle provides exemplary and first-in-class communication and shares relevant, accurate and thorough programmatic information that enables prospective online students to make an informed decision. Michelle completed her BA in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of the Philippines. Michelle served as a commissioned officer in the Philippine Navy.
Lavonia Lewis
Coordinator, Prospective Online Student Engagement
Lavonia serves as primary point of contact for all prospective online undergraduate degree program students. Lavonia is dedicated to facilitating a seamless inquiry experience for prospective students. She is deeply passionate about providing quality support to students, recognizing that their success is paramount. Lavonia has several years of experience in higher education from teaching to retention-based planning and implementation. Lavonia holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from the University of Southern Indiana, a Master of Business Administration from Oakland City University, and a Doctor of Education from Oakland City University.
