Services Offered by SIUE Police
Crime Alerts
Security Alerts and Timely Warnings
Notification about serious incidents, which may involve imminent danger, such as a threat to life or property, or any other type of incident which poses a serious degree of concern, is put out to the campus community in the form of a bulletin. Security alert bulletins are issued under the authority of the Vice Chancellor for Administration, and are usually distributed campus wide. They may be stylized as individual (hard copy) flyers and/or email.
Crisis Intervention Officers
Safety Escorts
SIUE police will provide a personal escort service to those individuals who feel apprehensive about walking alone on campus. An officer will escort you from one building to another on campus or to your vehicle in a campus parking lot. However, this escort service is not meant to be a primary means of transportation or a taxi service.
To obtain an escort, contact the University police department at 618-650-3324. The telecommunicator will ask for your destination and a call-back number. This ensures that if an emergency arises, the telecommunicator can call you back to advise you how long it may take for the escort to reach you. This service is provided 24 hours a day, every day.
Students are encouraged to walk in pairs and take advantage of the Madison County Transit Bi-State bus service. A bus schedule is available in the Cougar Village Commons Building. This bus service is free to students for on-campus transportation.
Emergency Management
Emergency Management at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is managed by the University Police Department and has a vital mission integral to protecting the continuity of University operations as well as the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors. The emergency management function uses an all hazards approach that ensures the University is prepared for a wide range of disasters including earthquakes, severe weather, hazardous material incidents, Homeland Security incidents, pandemic flu, and other serious threats to the University and its community. Emergency management activities include hazard mitigation, emergency preparedness, and emergency response and recovery activities.
SIUE has adopted the National Incident Management System (NIMS) which was instituted by a Presidential Directive to ensure all institutions and emergency response agencies have a framework to work effectively and efficiently during emergency response and recovery efforts.
Emergency Management is responsible for developing and revising emergency operations plans, recruiting and training an emergency response team and operating and maintaining an emergency operations center.

The non-emergency button may be used to request help for car trouble, to obtain an escort, or any other non-emergency situations. Each phone is equipped with a strobe light that is automatically activated when the phone is used. The strobe light will stay lit until a police officer de-activates the light.
Emergency outdoor telephones are located on the fan lots east of the academic area, north of University Park, and along the bike path to Cougar Village Apartments.
If you need to report a malfunctioning machine, please contact the police department at 618-650‑3324.
