Accident Information
The following procedures should be followed if you are driving a vehicle for state/university business and are involved in an accident. The same procedure applies if you are driving your personal or an Enterprise vehicle for state/university business.
At time of Accident
- Stop Immediately and turn on emergency flashers.
- Do not leave the scene of the accident. Notify or have someone contact the local law enforcement.
- Give reasonable help to the injured. Movement of an injured person should not be undertaken if likely to cause further injury.
- Obtain the following information:
- Names, addresses, and phone numbers of all drivers and passengers involved
- Insurance carrier information for all drivers/vehicle owners (The University is self insured under the state program.)
- License numbers of all vehicles involved
- Names, addresses, and phone numbers of any witnesses
- DO NOT make a statement to anyone other than the police or a representative of the State.
Immediately after Accident
All Accidents Must Be Reported to Transportation Services within 24 hours.
Call Transportation Services at (618) 650 - 3100 within 24 hours to report your accident and make an appointment. You must submit your Motorist Report the police gave you or a copy has to be obtained from the reporting agency's office.
Transportation has seven days to get the accident information to the Department of Central Management Services (CMS). Failure to do this within the seven calendar days may result in forfeiture of coverage by the driver and/or the employing agency/department. The adjustment process will not begin until this information is known to the adjuster.
Breakdown Information
The following procedures should be followed in an event that the University vehicle breaks down. If you are driving an Enterprise vehicle, please contact the nearest Enterprise office or the Glen Carbon office can be contacted at (618) 288 - 8812.
Flat Tire
- Change the tire with the spare if at all possible.
- If using the spare is not practical and it is between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, call the Auto Shop at (618) 650 - 3456 for further instructions.
- If after hours and you can not make it back to campus, contact the nearest repair garage or tow company and have them repair the tire. (Have the tire replaced only if it cannot be repaired.)
- Payment
- Check to see if the station will accept the Wright Express card issued with the vehicle.
- If not, ask the station if they except MasterCard and would mind calling SIUE's auto shop after 7 a.m. next business day at (618) 650 - 3456 for payment.
- If not, use your own credit card or cash, turn in your receipts to Transportation along with the vehicle number and your Social Security Number and home address, and we will reimburse you.
Other Repairs
- If the incident occurs between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, call the Auto Shop at (618) 650 - 3456 for instructions.
- If after hours and you are within approximately 150 miles of campus, contact Brown's Towing (618) 656 - 2886 or University Police at (618) 650 - 3324 and have the car towed to campus.
- If after hours and you are too far from campus, contact the nearest tow company and have them tow the vehicle to the nearest dealer for that make of car.
- Payment (if the repairs are under $100.00):
- Check to see if the dealership will accept the Wright Express card issued with the vehicle.
- If not, ask the station if they except MasterCard and would mind calling SIUE's auto shop after 7 a.m. next business day at (618) 650 - 3456 for payment.
- If not, use your own credit card or cash, turn in your receipts to Transportation along with the vehicle number and your Social Security Number and home address, and we will reimburse you.
- Payment (if the repairs are over $100.00):
- Contact University Police and have them contact the Auto Shop Garage Foreman.
