Welcome Future Cougars!
The College of Arts and Sciences, commonly known as CAS, offers 50 undergraduate and graduate degree options, along with two cooperative doctoral programs. We are the largest academic unit on campus, providing courses to every SIUE undergraduate student through our general education curriculum and more specialized courses for CAS majors. From physics to philosophy and from political science to theater and dance, CAS encompasses a wide range of learning opportunities for SIUE students, both in a traditional academic setting and through extracurricular programs and events.
Award-Winning Programs
CAS provides a high-quality education to approximately 8,000 students each year through our nearly 30 departments and programs. Our programs have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report and Great Value Colleges for their strong academic reputation and SIUE’s affordable tuition. In addition to SIUE’s accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, many CAS undergraduate and graduate degree programs also maintain specialized national accreditation from a wide range of agencies.
Renowned Faculty
Our faculty are dedicated to the success of all CAS students, upholding the highest standards for their students and themselves. In classrooms across CAS, faculty members impart their knowledge to students while teaching them to become problem-solvers and critical thinkers. But the learning doesn’t stop there. Our students are engaged in experiences beyond the classroom, such as working side-by-side with researchers in our labs, excavating artifacts during archaeology field school or performing with their peers as part of a musical ensemble. Our faculty are true teacher-scholars, dedicated to their own scholarship in order to enhance their teaching excellence as they prepare students to become leaders in a global society.
Accomplished Alumni
CAS alumni are the largest and most academically diverse group of graduates from SIUE, spanning the globe in an ever-growing network. Our graduates have achieved noteworthy accomplishments in nearly every industry, from earning Emmy and Grammy Awards to conducting pioneering research in the fields of molecular medicine and gene repair. CAS alumni include a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, noted politicians, a nationally acclaimed comedian, a U.S. Air Force major general, professional sports announcers and a retired FBI chief hostage negotiator.
