Aimee Howard
Jewelry and Metalsmithing
Originally from the Midwest, Aimee Howard received her BFA degree in Metalsmithing and Sculpture at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana under the direction of Patricia Nelson. Her MFA in Metalwork/Jewelry was achieved under the guidance of Jon Havener, Lin Stanionis, and Gina Westergard at the University of Kansas. After receiving her MFA, Aimee was fortunate to have the opportunity to head the Metalsmithing program at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette for four years. Aimee now calls Edwardsville, IL home, spending time on personal artistic pursuits and running the Metalwork and Jewelry Program at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville (SIUE) with colleague Paulette Myers (Professor Emeritus).
Aimee Howard’s artwork has been exhibited both nationally and internationally at venues including the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan, the Gil-gum Research Center in Seoul, Korea, the Brunswick Street Gallery in Fitzroy, Australia, the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington, Kentucky, Kawliga Studios in New Orleans, LA, and First Street Gallery in New York, NY. Her artwork focuses on complex issues relating to advancements in Western medicine. Particularly, the dilemmas produced by the marvels of medical technology juxtaposed with the often intrusive procedures used to sustain and prolong life. Her pieces raise challenging questions about hope, science, and cures.
