BFA Application & Forms
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, commonly referred to as a BFA, is considered a professional art degree. The BFA program in studio art is for the serious art students who consider making the professional practice of fine art or graphic design their career.
A student must be a matriculating BA or BS art major at SIUE prior to applying for the BFA program. Application for admission to the BFA degree program most often occurs during the junior year and typically after at least a year in residence at SIUE. To be accepted into the program, and to remain in the program, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 system) and 3.0 in studio work. Students must take a minimum of two semesters in the BFA program before graduating.
All applicants for the BFA degree program must submit a portfolio of work, which will be reviewed by the Art and Design studio faculty. Applicants should specify their intended area of studio specialization and have approval from the head of that area.
Applications are due no later than noon on November 1 for spring admissions and April 1 for fall admissions.
