Student Participation
All students who will participate in the Honors Day ceremony should receive an award letter from the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This letter will contain information about their specific award or scholarship, the award amount, and who sponsors it.
Students will be required to accept their awards in the online scholarship management system and must have completed a general scholarship application in order to receive and accept scholarships through the system.
During the Honors Day ceremony, students will have assigned seating and be called on stage collectively by department or program. They will have a group photo taken after they leave the stage. Each student is allowed to bring up to two guests, who will be seated in the general open area behind students and sponsors.
Students are required to write thank-you notes to their award sponsors. If their award sponsors are at Honors Day, award recipients should meet their sponsor(s), be photographed together, and thank them in person. Following the ceremony, the College of Arts and Sciences sends award sponsors photos of their student honorees, along with the students’ thank-you notes.
Student award recipients are asked to submit photos that will be incorporated into the Honors Day ceremony in PowerPoint presentations and large posters. The best pictures portray students in relevant academic settings and ideally in an activity for which they are receiving an award. For example, a science student may be looking into a microscope in a laboratory, or an art student may be making pottery from clay. Photos and RSVPs should be e-mailed to cashonorsday@siue.edu. Students should include their name, department and award information.
Photos used in conjunction with Honors Day may also be used in other promotions for the College of Arts and Sciences. All students need to complete the Photo Release Form.
