Emily Truckenbrod, soprano, is a Professor and the Director of Vocal Studies at SIUE.
She has appeared in recital, concerts, and opera throughout the United States as well as in Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Honduras and Tanzania, East Africa. Her voice has been described by reviewers as “having sweet clarity” which “personifies the joy of the music.”
In February 2026, Blue Griffin Recording released the recording project In Her Voice: Art Song Settings of Women Poets, from the award-winning duo of Emily Truckenbrod (soprano) and Amy I-Lin Cheng (piano). The recording includes the world premiere recording of Celius Dougherty’s Eglantine and Ivy: Eight Sonnets from the Portuguese (Elizabeth Barrett Browning). Lauded for her performances in oratorio and orchestral works, Ms. Truckenbrod has appeared as soloist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, The Wichita Symphony, the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, The Handel Oratorio Society, The American Kantorei, Collegium Vocale of St. Louis, LaFosse Baroque Ensemble, Concert Choir of Northeast Connecticut, the Northshore Choral Society, and the Masterworks Chorale. On the opera stage, she has portrayed the Queen of the Night and Papagena (The Magic Flute), Susannah (The Marriage of Figaro), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Adina (L’elisir d’Amore), Marie (The Daughter of the Regiment), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Oscar (Un Ballo di Maschera), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Yum Yum (The Mikado) and Monica (The Medium), among others.
An enthusiast of contemporary art music, Ms. Truckenbrod has been a featured soloist at Society of Composers (SCI) National and Regional Conferences, the Soundbox Intermedia Festival, the Midwest Composers Symposium, and numerous times with the Center for New Music at The University of Iowa. Prior to the Covid pandemic, she performed with the St. Louis Opera Collective, an opera company that created contemporary performances with an emphasis on 21st-Century opera in staged adaptations of Juliana Hall’s Sentiment, Melissa Dunphy’s Tesla’s Pigeon, as well as in the role of Beatrice in Jake Heggie’s opera, 3 Decembers.
Dr. Truckenbrod holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Music from Northern Illinois University. She has completed additional studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, the Eastman School of Music and as an intern with the National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern Program.
Dr. Truckenbrod has presented or performed for Music Educator Associations, the College Music Society, the American Musicological Society, the ATHENA festival, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She has published in the Journal of Singing (the peer-reviewed journal sponsored and published by the National Association of Teachers of Singing) and scholarly musical editions of Johann Adolph Hasse, Louise Reichardt, and Celius Dougherty with Classical Vocal Reprints. Her students have won awards, attended prestigious summer and graduate programs, and have sung professionally in the United States and abroad.
