Wulfsong has served on the SIUE design faculty for over 19 years, most recently as department chair, as well as 10 years as the head of theater technology and design. He just returned from a six-month leave working in New Zealand as lead technician for a 120-year-old Royal Opera House as well as three other venues. A native of Illinois, prior to moving to Edwardsville, Jim worked professionally in central Illinois and on productions at The Guthrie, Ordway and Mixed Blood Theater in Minnesota.
Professionally he has lent his skills to the premiere production of Disney’s Lion King and toward many Sesame Street Live productions while working for VStar Entertainment Services. Locally in St. Louis, he has worked for Hot House/City, Young Liars, Insight Theater, and Muddy Water's theater companies. He also served as the technical director for the Hartman Center for the Performing Arts at Bradley University, where he received his undergraduate degree, and as facilities manager and resident designer for The Orpheum Theater, a restored Vaudeville house in Galesburg Illinois.
Wulfsong is most excited by the intersection of art, science and technology. This can be seen in the way he integrates technology into his design work and finds inspiration in science and nature. Some of his scenic and lighting and projection design work at SIUE include: bobrauschenbergamerica, Proof, Antigone, As You Like It, A Mato Mosaic, The Dispute, Distracted, Carmina Burana, Nunsense, The 39 Steps, The Caretaker, Trojan Women, Point of Review and each of our 8 seasons of Xfest.
