I have secured a Co-op or internship, now what do I do?
INTERNATIONAL Students
STEP 1: REQUIRED - Employment off campus requires participation in Curricular Practical Training (CPT). To participate in CPT, you MUST receive authorization from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and complete all required paperwork for the ISSS office. Please visit their website for more information.
STEP 2: REQUIRED - You must complete all paperwork required by the Career Development Center (CDC). Call 618-650-3708 or email Dr. Taylor at tammtay@siue.edu for more information.
- Participation in CPT will require students to be enrolled in a zero-credit Co-op or internship course through the Career Development Center. There are no fees or tuition charged for registering in a course through the Career Development Center.
- You must allow at least three (3) weeks to complete paperwork with the CDC. Papework may take longer in some instances.
- Paperwork requirements will be discussed individually with students.
OPTIONAL: Students may have options to receive academic credit for the experience. Should the student have options and choose to receive academic credit for the experience, they will be required to complete paperwork for ISSS, the Career Development Center, and the academic unit; all three (3) departments will have separate paperwork and will work with the student individually. Receiving academic credit for the internship would incur tuition and fee charges. Please let us know if you are interested in credit hours, but be aware that they are not always an option.
