How to Apply

Our 2025 application cycle is now open.

 The SIU School of Dental Medicine participates in the American Dental Education Association's Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (ADEA AADSAS). The 2025 Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine Application Cycle began on May 14, 2024 and will end on November 15, 2024. Applicants can officially submit their application now.

Dental Admissions Test

All applicants must take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT); no exceptions are made. The American Dental Association (ADA) administers the DAT and it is available year round at Prometric test centers in the U.S. and Canada. Applicants will report official DAT scores to AADSAS and dental education programs of their choice. The DAT can be taken before applying in June of the application year. Scores must be received before the application deadline of November 15th. To be a competitive applicant and to be considered for the first round of interviews, the DAT should be taken before September 15th. An applicant should report future DAT test dates on the AADSAS application. The DAT is valid for three years before matriculation.

Application Fee

Applicants are required to pay a $20 supplemental application fee directly to Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. This fee is payable by personal check, money order or cashier’s check made out to Southern Illinois University. This payment should be made at the time the applicant submits the AADSAS application.

Supplemental Application & Technical Standards Form

Applicants are required to submit a Supplemental Application and Technical Standards Form along with their application fee. Once the SIU School of Dental Medicine has received all supplemental material, the Office of Admissions will email the applicant a confirmation of receipt.

Timetable

• • Applications for admission to the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine may be submitted starting on May 14th of the year preceding matriculation. APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY AADSAS NO LATER THAN November 15th in order for applicants to be considered for admission to the following year's class. Early application is to the individual's advantage and is strongly encouraged by the SIU School of Dental Medicine.

  • Admissions Committee review files from August to February

  • Interviews are conducted from September to February by invitation

  • First round of acceptances are sent on December 13th

  • Applicants are notified of final decisions on a rolling basis from January to May

  • Classes start 1st Monday in August
