Program Information
The graduate program in Orthodontics is a full-time program that requires twenty-four consecutive months to complete. The clinical, didactic and research components of the program are designed to enhance skill, knowledge and critical thinking in orthodontics.
The educational objectives of the program are achieved by:
- Participation in formal lectures, seminars, and laboratory courses
- Pursuit of research relevant to the specialty of orthodontics
- Teacher-assisting in undergraduate orthodontic courses
- Treatment of patients in the graduate orthodontics clinic
Residents who successfully complete the advanced education program will receive a specialty certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.
The program prepares all residents to meet the educational requirements for certification by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) and state licensing bodies for the specialty practice of orthodontics.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).
