CCRS Protocol Objectives and Process
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) strives to ensure our campus climate is one that supports all constituents' ability to engage in campus activity without concern for their psychological or physical safety. Because of our institution’s commitment to a culture of belonging, we have developed a process for our Campus Climate Reporting System.
Primary Objectives
- To provide an accessible tool for the campus community to share campus climate experiences, which provides qualitative and quantitative data;
- To share accumulated qualitative and quantitative data publicly through a dashboard to create more transparent communications regarding incidents and the reporting process;
- To have a mechanism in place that allows campus partners to consult with one another regarding campus climate concerns without a referral, investigation, adjudication, or discipline (unless required by laws such as Title IX, etc.)
- To provide immediate and direct peer support (as possible)
- To use cumulative data from the reporting system to create educational information and/or training regarding university policies, campus/community resources and support services, and intervention strategies and actions for improving campus climate
- To reaffirm the institution’s strong commitment to integrity, honesty, respect and support for an inclusive community
Process
Step 1: Initial Review
Once a campus climate concern is submitted via the online form (or via an individual, office, etc.), the form/concern is received by CCRS team members. CCRS representatives will identify which responsive strategies are necessary.
Some campus climate concerns may require more immediate consultation between campus partners regarding reported concerns;
- Additional campus climate concerns may be more thoroughly discussed between the reporting party and a campus representative;
- Other campus climate concerns may be for information reporting purposes without the need for a response from any campus representatives.
Step 2: Reported Concerns and Response
When a campus climate concern is shared, the person who is the reporting party will be contacted by a CCRS support team member (if the reporting party requests follow-up), within two business days. The intention is to offer support and resources and, if necessary, clarify any concerns reported in the form.
Information shared by the campus representative includes connecting the reporting party to supportive or investigative resources as needed and appropriate.
- Examples of supportive resources: SIUE Counseling Services or The Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub
- Examples of investigative resources: Office of Equal Opportunity, Access and Title IX Coordination or SIUE Police Department
If the campus climate concern potentially constitutes a violation of the law or University policy, the reporting party may take action through one of the following offices:
- Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs/Dean of Students
- Office of Equal Opportunity, Access and Title IX Coordination
- SIUE Police Department
- Office of Human Resources
- Office of the Provost
Some actions and situations may not violate the law or policy, but nonetheless, fail to support our institution’s commitment to a culture of belonging. If the campus climate concern reported action does not potentially violate the law or University policy, but harm to the reporting party occurred, the campus representative will explore other options for support of the reporting party.
Step 3: Path to Resolution
Guided by the needs and preferences of the reporting party, a CCRS support team member will support them in the path forward they choose. This could include connecting them to supportive and/or investigative resources. The CCRS support team member does not dictate the path of the reporting party but ensures engagement with offices and departments is a seamless and supportive process. The CCRS support team member will stay in contact with the reporting party with agreed-upon follow-ups until follow-ups are no longer requested or needed by the reporting party.
