Vision & Mission
In accordance with the mission of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, the Department of Psychology provides an energetic learning environment at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The department strives to develop and apply knowledge and skill sets that will allow faculty and students to engage in the science and practice of psychology. As we teach, conduct research and perform service, we strive to:
- increase psychological knowledge;
- apply psychological knowledge;
- improve critical thinking and scientific literacy;
- establish research methodology and statistical skills;
- enhance written and oral communication;
- produce high-quality research;
- promote ethical behavior; and
- provide community outreach services.
Psychology faculty provide rigorous classroom, research-based, and field experiences in applied and basic areas of psychology to prepare students for their careers and post-graduate academic endeavors. These experiences are steeped in technological practices, ethical principles, and a desire to prepare students for success in an increasingly diversified workforce.
