About Dr. Forbringer
Linda L Forbringer Ph.D., is a Professor of Special Education in the School of Education, Health, and Human Behavior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Dr. Forbringer joined SIUE in 2003 after obtaining her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Saint Louis University. She teaches courses in Special Education, including teaching classroom management and behavior supports, methods of teaching mathematics for students with disabilities, instructional methods for individuals with disabilities, and introduction to the exceptional child. Before coming to SIUE, Dr. Forbringer worked as a teacher/counselor, case manager, licensed professional counselor and administrator of a day treatment center for individuals with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities operated by the Positive Education Program in Cleveland, Ohio. She consults with school districts and presents on behavioral issues, mathematics strategies during tiered interventions, differentiating instruction and teacher preparation.
Research Profile
Dr. Forbringer’s recent research focuses on effective interventions for students who struggle with mathematics, especially in the areas of mathematical operations and solving word problems. Additional research interests include differentiating instruction, as well as helping pre-service and in-service teachers increase self-reflection and develop expertise in the use of effective intervention strategies.
