Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, religion, national origin or sex in violation of Title VII. When promoting positions, and considering candidates, remember, the more diverse your applicant pool, the more likely you are to attract qualified candidates who represent the diverse identities of SIUE and the communities we serve. To that end, we ask that you undertake the following in your search process:
- Recruitment Sources: Provide the Office of Equal Opportunity, Access & Title IX Coordination (EOA) with a written summary outlining how you plan to increase the diversity of your applicant pool, including recruiting resources you intend to use to attract applications from women, minorities, protected veterans, and people with disabilities, by 1 week from the day your position is posted online.
- Search Committee: Establish a Search Committee that includes women and minorities and to the extent possible, individuals with disabilities and veterans, even if you have to go outside your unit to do so. If you need assistance building an inclusive Search Committee, please contact the EOA. Provide the EOA with a list of committee members, including the name, race, and gender of each member by 1 week from the day your position is posted online.
- Search Committee Training: Members of the Search Committee should be knowledgeable of the legal requirements in the hiring process, the SIUE Guidelines to Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Workforce, the SIUE Non-Discrimination Policy, and what the expectation is of each member during the process. Search Committee Training is mandatory and should occur before the first meeting of the Search Committee; to have your members trained or to verify their training, please contact the office of EOA.
- Inclusive Hiring Toolkit: Members of the Search Committee should understand what inclusive hiring looks like. To that end, EOA recommends that all members of the Search Committee review the Inclusive Hiring Toolkit.
- Equity Consultants Team: This cohort of faculty and staff are available to help Search Committees keep fairness and equity at the forefront of the hiring process. They are available to help provide guidance on how to create rubrics or draft interview questions. Equity Consultants are required for all tenure track and non-tenure track faculty hiring and for director and higher administrative positions. To contact the Equity Consultant Team, email equityconsultants@siue.edu.
- The Chair of the Search Committee or Hiring Manager is responsible for completing the Hiring Justification form, which will be reviewed by the EOA for approval.
- The information requested in Steps 1 and 2 must be provided to the office of EOA at the start of the search process by the date stated. Please email them to eoa-titleix@siue.edu.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact Mindy Kinnaman, Assistant Director for Equal Opportunity, Access, and Title IX Coordination: 618-650-2333
