Construction Update Winter 2020
Posted December 18, 2020
School of Dental Medicine (SDM) Advanced Care Clinic
In February of 2020 SIU SDM broke ground on the new 17,390 square foot, $8.5 million Advanced Care Clinic. Within this new facility are 16 clinical chairs and two dental surgery suites with a common area where students can gather to collaborate.
Construction is a little over 50% complete and the building’s shell will be sufficiently complete before winter construction hits full swing. This milestone will enable the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work to continue unaffected by weather in order to be completed in May of 2021. It will take another month until all the specialized dental equipment can be delivered and installed prior to the scheduled opening in July. New students arriving this fall will be the first to experience this new state of the art facility.
Founders Hall Renovation
Facilities Management (FM) moved the Founders Hall occupants from the swing space locations in Science East and the Vadalabene Center back to Founders Hall in July and August as the project neared completion.
Currently, the construction portion is complete, except for an upcoming storefront installation at the lower level Founders-Alumni tunnel. Grass was planted back in the very end of the summer and sidewalks were completed on the west side of Founders in October/November.
There is on-going testing to verify that the emergency and climate control systems are working as they were designed to function.
The upgrades to the existing building make the interior spaces more comfortably, enjoyable, efficient, and safer. Interior spaces are well lit with efficient LED light fixtures installed in new ceilings, all have a fresh coat of paint, most spaces have new flooring material, all restrooms have been upgraded, and the building now meets the current seismic code.
Facilities Management would like to thank the Founders Hall occupants for your patience over the last two years and hope that you, as well as the rest of the SIUE community, enjoy the updated building.
