Chilled Water Line Repair
Posted August 28, 2022
Over the weekend, Facilities Management (FM) identified a significant leak in the chilled water system near the entrance to Lot A, east of the Vadalabene Center (VC), requiring emergency repairs.
FM began excavation yesterday but has not yet found the exact location of the leak. This 24” line is buried deep under Lot A, requiring significant excavation.
This line carries chilled water, used for cooling in air conditioning systems in core campus buildings - those encompassed within Circle Dr. For now, FM is still operating the chilled water system and core campus building are air conditioned. However, once FM locates the leak, these buildings will not have air conditioning for the duration of the emergency repairs.
The university’s domestic water system is not affected by this leak.
Until repairs are complete, Lot A will have a single entrance and single exit. Please enter at the roundabout, near the VC, and exit at the construction entrance, near the north end of Alumni Hall. Watch for temporary exit signs.
UPDATE 8/31/22:
Yesterday evening, Facilities Management (FM) located the break in the chilled water line near the Lot A roundabout. FM trades worked through the night and were able to complete repairs on the chilled water line early this morning, preventing an air conditioning shutdown in core campus buildings during the day.
Lot A will remain one way in, one way out until FM completes repairs where excavation occurred. Please continue to enter Lot A at the roundabout and exit at the northeast corner, near Alumni Hall.
