Founders Hall Renovation - 12/14/18
Posted December 14, 2018
As the semester break approaches, Facilities Management continues to making great progress at Founders Hall. At the west towers, we are building forms and pouring concrete. In the next two weeks we will complete a significant amount of demolition work. To accommodate this and provide access for our contractors to the 1st floor and lower level, our Architects are currently coordinating furniture moves. For anyone working over the break, please expect an increase in construction noise from the demolition.
As a reminder, we have a scheduled power outage at Founders Hall on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The following week, Tuesday, Dec. 18 through Friday, Dec. 21, our contractor will complete electrical work, limiting access to Founders Hall from the southern basement entrance. This will not affect access through the 1st floor and you will still have access to the lower level from both interior stairwells and the elevator.
To accommodate plumbing work in the ceiling, the 1st floor men’s restroom will be closed next week. Please use the men’s room on the lower level during this time. The following week, of Dec. 24, the women’s room on the 1st floor will be closed for the same work.
Air quality tests performed by Emergency Management and Safety again showed low particulate matter counts in all but one area, the southeast stairwell at 30,600 parts per million. In response to these findings and in continuation of the efforts we have taken to address elevated particulate matter levels from pervious tests, we continue to seal windows with exterior calking and seal any openings between construction areas and occupied areas to prevent air movement between them. We have not found elevated levels at this location in recent tests and areas where we have found elevated levels previously were much lower during this most recent test.
