Founders Hall
With the 2019 fall semester in full swing, Facilities Management (FM) has completed the swing space moves to and from Founders Hall, Science East, and the Vadalabene Center. These moves required a considerable amount of planning and attention to detail from our architectural staff and we have made every effort to meet the university’s needs with the spaces available. FM would like to thank everyone affected by the Founders Hall project as our success in this endeavor is dependent on your patience, understanding, and support.
Inside Founder’s Hall, work is underway to deconstruct mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as walls, ceilings, flooring, doors, etc. on the lower level and the first floor. All four towers are now complete, including exterior masonry, capping, and roofing.
Sidewalks and Valves
In other construction news, FM has completed this year’s phases for the sidewalk and water valve replacement projects. The new sidewalks offer improved ADA access with more user-friendly slopes and are constructed with concrete, a superior material to the asphalt previously used. The new valves we have installed replace aging equipment and allows FM to shut off water to individual buildings, rather than groups of buildings.
Parking Lots
Parking Services and FM have substantially completed construction at Lot A, Lot P-10, the Korte Stadium lot, and the credit union parking lot. These new parking lots offer improved safety, traffic flow, parking accessibility (including ADA parking), lighting, and increased parking capacity. For instance, the new roundabout at Lot A will better manage traffic in and out of the lot. This fall, FM will lay mulch in planting beds around the lots, followed by planting next spring.
Other Projects
Other projects FM has recently completed or substantially completed include, but are not limited to, installing a new skylight at Lovejoy Library, skylight replacement at the Student Fitness Center, new carpeting in the Dunham Theater, and remodels at Starbucks in the MUC and ACCESS offices/testing center in the Student Success Center. The new skylight at Lovejoy Library has been installed and the temporary walls blocking off the construction area have been removed. At ACCESS, the offices and office suite have been remodeled and the testing center expanded, doubling the testing capacity.
