Founders Hall Construction Update - 2/21/2020
Posted February 20, 2020
Facilities Management is happy to announce the Founders Hall renovation continues on track for completion. We will working through the summer and eagerly anticipate all floors of Founders Hall to be open for academia for the fall 2020 semester.
This summer, two new fire prevention systems will go on-line improving life safety in Founders Hall. The building is now equipped with a sprinkler system and a fire barrier has been installed in the atrium. In the event of a fire, the fire barrier will extend across the atrium openings along a track, preventing fire and dangerous gasses from spreading through the building.
On the second and third floors, FM has completed installation of new stainless steel handrails and refinished the terrazzo floor, providing a clean, modern look. The new stairways in the east towers feature large landings, wide steps and large windows, providing ample space and natural light.
On Monday, Feb. 24, FM will close the north stairs in Founders Hall to accommodate construction activity. This stairway will remain closed for the remainder of the project along with the south stairs. As an alternative, please use the new stairways located within the east towers. Watch for signage as you approach the building directing you to the new entrances. The elevator, located at the north end of the building will not be affected by this closure and will remain open for use. The north entrance will remain open for elevator access only.
