Writing Spaces
Writing at the Center
The CFDI can be accessed by faculty whenever Lovejoy Library is open. Walk-ins are welcome provided that open space is available--to enter the rooms, swipe your faculty ID or use the CBORD Mobile ID app. You will see a QR outside the door to check to make sure the rooms are open.
Once inside, make yourself at home at one of our tables, counters, or upholstered chairs. We have a quiet space and plenty of outlets and wall-mounted monitors to support your writing practice. The bathrooms and a filtered water station are across the hall and you are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks.
Writing at T-Rex
SIUE has an arrangement with the T-Rex Center in Downtown St. Louis, a co-working space where SIUE faculty are welcome to drop in to work. Take a virtual tour to see the comfy chairs, natural light, modular white boards, and free coffee and beer (after 4:00pm) bar. Note, the parking lot is run by the City of St. Louis and does require payment to park directly behind the building.
3-Day Writing Retreat at T-Rex
Held at T-Rex every summer, the 3-day annual writing retreat offers faculty the opportunity to set aside space and time to work on a continuing project, begin a new one, or finish a never-ending article. Faculty have the opportunity to meet in person with other faculty to talk about their work. The mix of supportive colleagues from all fields can also help attendees think about their projects in new ways. Each day faculty discuss writing habits, consult with a dedicated faculty member when needed, and set and achieve their writing goals. The Center for Faculty Development and Innovation provides lunch and coffee all three days to help faculty maintain their focus.
The retreat is open to all faculty of any rank and from any discipline. We limit the retreat to 15 participants and give priority to people who have not attended in the past.
