Geographic Enhancement Opportunity (GEO) Award

Overview
Your admission application serves as your application for the GEO Award. Academically qualified international freshmen, transfers and graduate students are eligible for the GEO Award. This is a reduced tuition rate that recognizes outstanding academic achievement. The GEO Award is available for all terms (fall, spring and summer).
The undergraduate GEO award is valued at $10,374 per year for the 2024-2025 academic year based on 12 credit hours per semester. The actual award amount may vary based on course enrollment.
The graduate GEO award is valued at $8,436 per year for the 2024-2025 academic year based on nine credit hours per semester. The actual award amount may vary based on course enrollment.
The GEO award can result in a total savings of:
- More than $47,000 over the course of an international student’s four-year undergraduate program
- At least $13,000 for a two-year graduate program
Undergraduate Student Criteria
- First-time, full-time, international students who are academically qualified based on their secondary school transcripts and who have obtained at least a 79 TOEFL score, a 6.5 IELTS score or the equivalent, or
- Students who have been recognized through a competitive departmental process.
The award is good for up to eight undergraduate semesters. Students must remain in good academic standing while holding the award and abide by the University academic policy as stated in the undergraduate catalog.
Transfer and Graduate Student Criteria
- First-time, full-time, international students who are academically qualified based on their college or university undergraduate transcript and who have been fully admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program at SIUE.
- The tuition discount is valid for only one major program at the bachelor’s or master’s level. Coursework completed outside of the specified program may not be eligible for this discount.
The award is good for up to six terms. Continuance of the award requires completion of full-time enrollment each semester (minimum of nine credit hours). Students must remain in good academic standing while holding the award and abide by the University academic policy as stated in the graduate catalog.
