Gardens Etiquette for Visitors
Follow SIUE policies for all campus areas while at The Gardens.
- Do not possess or consume any alcoholic beverage on the property.
- Do not smoke, build a campfire, light candles or have any open flame on Gardens property.
- No firearms.
- Do not operate drones/unmanned aircraft while at The Gardens.
Treat The Gardens as a special outdoor venue.
- Supervise children.
- Keep your dog on a leash and clean up after your pet.
- Stay on trails, paved paths, lawn areas, the bikeway or the paved road.
- Bike on the paved drives or bikeway only, not on the loop path or chip paths.
- Save our trees. Do not climb trees or attach hammocks or slacklines to the trees.
- Keep the walkways safe and give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the peace of our garden setting.
Respect the privacy of other visitors in The Gardens.
- Stay out of areas reserved for special events (e.g. weddings) as these individuals have paid for use of Gardens property.
- Preserve the quiet atmosphere of The Gardens. Do not bring recreational games, radios, or portable stereos to The Gardens.
- Set up photography sessions, professional or amateur, so that the session is not interfering with visitors’ enjoyment of The Gardens.
Help maintain the natural setting of The Gardens
- Leave Gardens plant matter in its natural setting. Do not collect or remove plant and other natural materials. Researchers may receive special approval for collection of plant specimens.
- Remember that birds and small animals can be harmed if litter from confetti, party poppers and similar items are scattered in The Gardens.
- Allow the animal residents of The Gardens to live safely in the outdoors. No hunting, trapping or disturbing animals.
- Clean up any debris remaining after a fishing session on Cougar Lake or Turtle Pond.
- Park in designated parking areas, not on the grass.
