Overview
Prairie Hall opened in August 1998 and houses first-year residents. It is home to three Learning Living Communities: Health Professionals, Education, and Social and Human Behavior.
All first-year buildings are fully furnished, air-conditioned, smoke-free, and feature suite-style facilities – two persons share each room and four persons share a bathroom. Each wing has an academic lounge for quiet study along with a social lounge containing a kitchenette, microwave, and cable television. Prairie Hall boasts an activity wing with rooms for academic and social programs and a 24-hour computer lab. Residents of Bluff Hall, Prairie Hall, and Woodland Hall must purchase a meal plan. Residence halls are staffed 24 hours a day with controlled access and video surveillance. Regular patrols of the area are conducted by University Police.
Prairie Hall residents have the opportunity to participate in many academic and social programs. Residents can run for the Prairie Area Council executive board, attend Area Council meetings, or join the Residence Housing Association (RHA). Both the Prairie Area Council and RHA host programs and social opportunities, influence Housing policy, and work with other organizations within Housing and on-campus. Prairie Hall hosts an annual Prairie Haunted House in October and the Prairie Luau every spring – just a couple of examples of how you can get involved!
