University Housing

Wireless networking (WIFI) is available in most places across campus, including residence halls and apartments. There are three wireless networks available: Eduroam, Welcome to SIUE, and Housing Registered Devices. Eduroam is the secure network you will want to use to connect your cell phone and computer to the network. Welcome to SIUE is the unsecured network for guests to the University. Housing Registered Devices is for game consoles, streaming devices, and other web browser-less systems.

To access Eduroam, choose Welcome to SIUE from your available wireless networks. Once you are connected open a browser and go to wifisetup.siue.edu. Click configure your device to use Eduroam and follow the steps provided. If you have any questions, contact the ITS help desk at (618) 650-5500.

Wired Network

Data jacks are available for residents to connect a personal computer to the campus network. A 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet card and Ethernet cable (10 feet or longer, RJ45 Cat 5 patch cable) are required to connect to the network.  

Register your device, game console, or other web browser-less system, on the SIUE network to connect it to the Internet. To register your device, ITS needs the following information: where you live, your e-ID, and the MAC address of your device. If you do not know how to find the MAC address, please use the links below or contact the manufacturer.

All contracted Housing residents with a vehicle on campus are required to obtain a residence hall parking permit from Parking Services to park in the area reserved for students. The resident must have a parking hang tag displayed on the rearview mirror of his/her vehicle before the beginning of the second week of classes. You may purchase your parking permit online.

Residents living in a first-year residence hall (Bluff, Prairie, or Woodland Halls) are required to purchase a Residential Meal Plan (A, B, or C). Residential Meal Plans are also available for purchase by Cougar Village Apartments and Evergreen Hall residents but are not required. 

Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C are an "a la carte" structure, meaning you pay for what you eat. The selected meal plan will be loaded on to the SIUE Cougar Card at the beginning of the semester and the Cougar Card is used like a debit card at campus dining locations.  

Students selecting Residential Meal Plans A, B, and C pre-pay a percentage of the meal plan cost to fund fixed costs in dining services (i.e., supplies, utilities, labor, and maintenance). The full meal plan cost MINUS the amount that was pre-paid is then loaded onto the Cougar Card. The remaining meal plan amount on the Cougar Card is available to spend for food purchases.  

Since students have pre-paid a portion of their costs, food prices at the register, when purchased with Meal Plans A, B, or C, are substantially discounted by the percentage of the fixed costs already taken off the top. Also, students using Residential Meal Plans A, B, or C do not pay sales tax on their food purchases. 

Our students are able to eat wherever they want on our campus using their meal plan. Discount pricing is not available at Union Station. 

Any balance remaining on the meal plan at the end of the fall semester rolls over to the spring semester for use.

Students’ personal belongings are not covered by University insurance. For more information about student personal property insurance, please visit NSSI.

Housing University offers student-employment opportunities as a Resident Assistant, Desk Manager, Central Housing Office student worker, or and University Housing Facilities Management student worker. These positions are filled as needed, and the latest information can be found at Employment Opportunities.

SIUE undergraduate students are provided with a textbook rental program — an economical alternative to purchasing most textbooks. The textbook rental fee is included in your student fees, so you do not need to bring money to pick up your books; all you need is your student ID. Graduate textbooks, supplemental texts, SIUE merchandise, and other products are available for purchase at the University Bookstore. Visit The Cougar Store for more information.

Student Health Insurance

SIUE requires student health insurance for:

• Full-time domestic students with at least one on-ground class
• All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students
• All international students if they are enrolled in (1) or more credit hours or are enrolled in University 500.

Vaccination Requirements

All new, transfer, or re-entering students must provide proof of protection against the diseases of Rubeola, Rubella, Mumps, Tetanus, and Diphtheria per Illinois-mandated requirements. This requirement must be met by the first day of attendance. A $25 fine will be imposed for failure to comply, and proof must be provided before you can register for subsequent semesters.
