Comprehensive HR Benefits
Employees at SIUE are offered benefits through the State of Illinois insurance plan. These include health, dental, vision, life insurance and flexible spending accounts. Supplemental benefits, such as long-term disability, life insurance and cancer/critical illness are also offered. Additional benefits information can be found through the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS).
As an employee, it is your responsibility to notify Human Resources immediately when any of the following life changes occur that may impact your eligibility or your dependent's eligibility:
- Newborn, newly acquired dependent(s) or loss of dependent(s)
- Marriage, divorce, legal separation, annulment or death of a spouse
- Change in spouse or dependent’s employment, Public Aid or Medicare status
- Change of home address
- Your payroll deductions do not appear to be correct for the amount of coverage you selected
Additional information concerning your benefits under the Group Insurance Program can be found by contacting the Office of Human Resources, or by calling 1-844-251-1777.
Benefits Choice Period
The Benefits Choice Period is announced to employees annually, but is usually held from May 1 through May 31 each year. During this time, eligible employees may make changes to their health, dental and vision insurance coverage for the next plan year. Each plan year runs from July 1 through June 30.
Insurance Changes Outside the Choice Period
You may make changes at other times during the year due to a Qualifying Change in Status, for example, the birth of a child.
- Changes are in effect for the remainder of the current plan year.
- Certain benefit selections may require support documentation and may need to be requested within 60 days of the qualifying event.
Life Insurance Changes
Changes to life insurance coverage may be made anytime during the year for spouse and child and for employee coverage above $50,000. An approved statement of health may be required to add or increase coverage.
