Learning Resource Center Services
The Learning Resource Center is a full-service public library that caters to students and community members who are pursuing their academic or professional advancement goals. We work on connecting individuals to resources, technology, workforce development opportunities, and career pathways.
All persons affiliated with the East St. Louis Higher Education Campus are eligible to receive a library card and have access to full functions of programs and services. We also extend our full-functions to parents/guardians of students enrolled in our campus’ after school programs and/or Head Start programs. We will also grant library services to all East St. Louis residents and the broader community, whom do not have a local public library serving their community.
We provide various library services in the following target areas:
1. Library Services
Your LRC library card gives you access to our materials in the LRC and to more than 400 libraries through the Illinois Heartland Library System (That’s over 9.5 million items shared!). You can come in or request a book online to be picked up at our location. You also have access to ebooks and audiobooks through CloudLibrary. Log in with your library card number and pin (contact the LRC if you don't know your card number or need your pin reset).
Forgot to bring back an item? Do not worry, we know life can happen! The LRC would rather see you back in the library than to hide away from a lurking late fee. Bring our item back and if you can, bring along a canned food item or a school supply donation, and your late fee will be waived. The LRC collects these supplies to help out students and families of our SIUE East St. Louis Charter High School and SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Centers, because this is what a community learning together looks like!
You can browse titles and request materials on our Aspen site. Use your library card number and pin to put a hold on an item. Contact the LRC if you are unsure what your card number is or need your pin reset.
2. Computer/Technology Services
The LRC has 10 computers located on our main floor available to all patrons (with or without a library card). The LRC offers black-and-white copies, scanning, Internet and printing services to our patrons, all free of charge.
The LRC also offers a 20-computer Smart Lab for classroom use or computer-focused training/seminars.
Technology Assistance: Needing help with a new phone or tablet? Do you want to freshen up your skills with Microsoft Office before that job interview or class starts? Come in and ask a librarian! Tech Tuesdays are here for you, along with the others day of the work week!
3. Academic/Higher Education Support
The LRC offers a gamut of support services for students, faculty, teachers and staff. Some services we offer include: study space, test-prep guides, Microsoft Office program assistance and so much more! Let the LRC know how we can help you integrate your classroom experience with the services available at the LRC.
4. Career Development Opportunities
One of the LRC’s main objectives is to provide our community access to career development opportunities. Throughout the academic year, the LRC/Library will plan various programs, workshops and trainings that will promote career development. The goal of this service is to provide tangible and valuable experience that helps individuals be more marketable to employers. A program assistant for guidance in career services is also in the LRC to help with extensions and recruitments.
