Serving as a preceptor to Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students can be a highly rewarding experience. Incorporating students into your practice setting offers you a chance to give back to the profession, extend your patient care services, and expand your knowledge base.
What rotation types are offered at SIUE School of Pharmacy?
- Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE)
- First-year students
- Two-week experience in the Fall term
- Complete one assignment of your choice
- One final evaluation
- Second-year students
- Three-week experiences offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms
- Students are immunization and CPR certified
- Complete one assignment of your choice
- One final evaluation
- First-year students
- Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE)
- Fourth-year students
- Five-week experiences
- Complete two assignments of your choice
- Evaluations at midpoint and end of rotation
- Fourth-year students
What does it take to be a preceptor?
- Licensed pharmacist (in good standing) for at least 12 months
- Working in the same setting for at least 6 months
- Professional and ethical role model for students
- Provide students with positive and constructive feedback
- Good communication and organization skills
