Diplomas
General information about SIUE diplomas
All SIUE students will receive one diploma per degree earned. In addition, replacement, duplicate, and/or e-Diplomas can be request for additional charges.
During the Graduation Application Process in CougarNet, graduating students may choose to create a diploma name with a preferred first name or legal last name.
Examples of preferred names include: using a middle name instead of a first name; using an abbreviated name (Rob instead of Robert); using an Americanized name (Mary instead of Haiyan); or using a name that better reflects one’s ethnic, racial or gender identity. Please be advised that in some situations, the name appearing on your diploma may need to match other legal documents you possess.
Address information can be updated or maintained via CougarNet - General Personal Information. After mailing, if you diploma is returned to the Office of the Registrar, you will be responsible for providing a corrected address and paying for any forwarding mail charges. If your diploma is not returned to the Office of the Registrar and 60 days have passed since the mailing date, you will be responsible for providing a correct address and paying for the cost of replacement diploma.
- Degree awarding and diplomas summary:
- During the weeks following final exams, degrees will be awarded and recorded on student transcripts. This process will begin on the Thursday after finals week of your graduation term.
- Please keep your mailing address current, as diplomas are mailed approximately ten weeks after the conclusion of your graduation term.
- University Diplomas are 8.5x11 inches for Undergraduate and Graduate diplomas. Professional diplomas are 11x14 inches.
- e-Diplomas (new - Summer 2024)
- Certified electronic e-Diplomas are available for purchase (charge of $5.00) at http://www.michaelsutter.com/siue
- Upon ordering, e-Diplomas may take a few weeks to process. However, our goal is to have e-Diplomas approved upon receiving order request within 2 to 3 business days.
- Commencement:
- Graduates wishing to attend the Commencement must complete the RSVP form on the Commencement webpage.
- Commencement participation is not mandatory; it is optional.
- Commencement is in Fall and Spring.
- Students graduating in Summer has the option to participate in either Spring or Fall Commencement.
Only diploma covers are presented to participants.
Conferral Dates
All degree conferral dates are aligned with the end of the term in which the student is award their degree for Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters.
