Introduction to Military Science (MSC 101-102)
This course covers an introduction to contemporary military issues and the role of the U.S. Army in national defense systems. It also teaches the practices of time management, goal setting, and motivational leadership. MS1 students generally attend physical training a minimum of three days a week in addition to a one-hour and 15-minute class and a two-hour lab conducted weekly.
Applied Military Skills/Small Unit Leadership (MSC 201-202)
These courses cover detailed instruction and practical exercises in military writing, briefing and decision making, as well as the use of analytical aids in planning, organizing and controlling a changing environment. These courses will also cover military land navigation techniques, basic first aid, and movement as a squad.
Advanced Leadership & Management/Small-Unit Tactics (MSC 301-302)
These courses cover a review of skills, techniques and concepts required by the small-unit combat leader to include troop leading procedures, land navigation skills, tactical organization and offensive tactics.
Leadership & Management/Officership (MSC 401-402)
These courses cover an examination of organization, responsibilities, administration and management of the military unit staff. They also explore practical aspects of military law and how it influences leadership. These courses also help in the development of interpersonal skills required for effective management with particular emphasis on the military environment.
The Art of War (MSC 222)
This course covers the history and evolution of warfare from the ancient Greeks to Operation Desert Storm. Key military leaders and campaigns will be analyzed using the U.S. Army Principles of Leadership War.
Survivor Training (MSC 122)
This course covers an introduction to survival and leadership skills, including finding food and water, making shelters, conducting land navigation, climate adjustment, first aid, rappelling, and water survival.
Independent Study (MSC 490)
In this course students accomplish a task or project based on initial counseling and consideration of student learning goals and department capabilities. It develops a student's ability to work with minimal supervision, establish goals, meet deadlines, and execute project management.
Special Topics (MSC 495)
This course covers advanced and specialized topics of current concern to the field of military science. Examples may include advanced survival training, military mountaineering and rappelling, advanced military career fields, and other significant topics.
