Opera Theatre
Welcome to SIUE Opera Theatre!
We pride ourselves on being one of the premier institutions for studying and performing opera in the Midwest. Each year, we present a minimum of two productions and a scenes program. Our student population is diverse and includes a wide range of musical interests, which is reflected in our season selections. The 2023–2024 SIUE Opera Theatre season includes Fugitive Songs by Chris Miller, Le Nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Twenty-Four, conceived by Tony Boutté.
Students involved in SIUE Opera Theatre are dedicated to the study of staging, acting, and operatic repertoire specific to the operatic stage. It is common to find SIUE Opera Theatre students also performing in professional productions in St. Louis, including on the stages of Winter Opera St. Louis and Union Avenue Opera Theatre.
We are committed to cultivating relationships with regional arts organizations. SIUE Opera Theatre enjoys a strong collaboration with the professional opera company, Opera Edwardsville. For years, SIUE students have been featured in concert, video, and children’s opera performances. In addition, Opera Edwardsville offers masterclasses to SIUE students with professional artists in residence.
SIUE Opera Theatre is open to all majors, but involvement may be limited based on the repertoire performed. Students can register for MUS 460A or MUS 460B Opera Workshop to participate in productions. Please reach out to Dr. Marc Schapman, Director of SIUE Opera Theatre, with more questions. See you at the opera!
