Commencement RSVP
All eligible graduates are asked to RSVP, even if they do not plan to participate in the commencement ceremonies. The Commencement RSVP is different than the Application to Graduate. Be sure to complete both!
RSVP for Fall 2024 Commencement
Commencement
Commencement is the live ceremony in which graduates celebrate the completion of a degree by receiving a diploma cover. There is no fee to participate in commencement ceremonies, however, all graduates are responsible for purchasing their regalia (cap and gown). Regalia orders are processed through a third-party in partnership with the Cougar Store.
Ceremonies are held in the First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center. This is not a ticketed event. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is complimentary in Lot A. Ceremonies last approximately 1-2 hours. Each ceremony will be livestreamed for any guests not able to attend. Only graduates in attendance will be recognized. Professional photos will be taken of each graduate as they cross and exit the stage.
Commencement ceremonies include remarks from SIU System and SIUE administration representatives; recognize University honors and awards; acknowledge student speakers; confer degrees upon eligible graduates; and welcome SIUE's newest graduates to the Alumni Association.
Livestream
All live in person ceremonies will be livestreamed. Only graduates in attendance will be recognized as they cross the stage. Friends and family members who cannot attend the ceremonies are encouraged to watch the livestream online.
