What to Expect
Counseling Services is evolving from a campus-based private practice to a behavioral health urgent care that centers self-regulation (i.e., the capacity to intentionally shift from a state of distress to calm). The centerpiece of this evolution is the new Behavioral Health Consultation (BHC), an intervention designed to offer same-day, 30-minute walk-in services that do not require an Initial Assessment (IA) to access.
Focused on helping students leave with three mental health tangibles: 1 self-care-related SMART goal, 1 self-regulatory strategy, and additional resources to support you in better tolerating the distress associated with being a student.
When the visit ends, students can expect one of four outcomes:
- Discharge
- Discharge and referral for care in the community accessed through student insurance
- Continue Behavioral Health Consults for up to 4 additional individual or group sessions
- Schedule Initial Assessment if group or psychotherapy are indicated
BHCs are available during business hours, Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. & Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
TimelyCare is available for needs outside of this time frame.
