Historically, students from the SIU School of Dental Medicine achieve exceptionally high first time pass rates on the National Board Dental Exams, Parts I and II. Passing the exams is a requirement for licensure in the United States and is a strong indicator of student preparedness to practice dentistry. We are proud to note that dental students who attend the SIU School of Dental Medicine graduate with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree as some of the best general practitioners of dentistry in the country.

The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at the SIU School of Dental Medicine is a fully accredited one year program that offers an optional second year. The program is designed to refine and enhance the resident's clinical skills and scientific knowledge while bridging the gap between dental school and general dental practice. The program provides the resident with broad clinical experience in all phases of general dentistry in addition to implant dentistry and IV sedation technique.

The Graduate Endodontics program at the SIU School of Dental Medicine is a CODA accredited, full-time program that requires twenty-four consecutive months to complete. The clinical specialty program has been designed to satisfy the needs of those who wish to acquire greater skill, knowledge, and experience in endodontics leading to a Specialty Certificate in Endodontics.

The Graduate Orthodontics program at the SIU School of Dental Medicine is a CODA accredited, full-time program that requires twenty-four consecutive months to complete. The clinical, didactic and research components of the program are designed to enhance skill, knowledge and critical thinking in orthodontics. Residents who successfully complete the advanced education program will receive a specialty certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.

The Implant Dentistry Program is an integral part of the SIU School of Dental Medicine. The program is dedicated to providing high quality, comprehensive educational opportunities in the placement and restoration of dental implants for our undergraduate and postgraduate students and for area practitioners. Through these educational opportunities, the Implant Dentistry Program functions as a regional support network for the advancement of dental implant studies and practice in southern Illinois and the surrounding region.
Becoming a fellow in the Implant Dentistry ProgramApplying to become a student in the International Advanced Placement Program
The International Advanced Placement Program (IAPP) at SIU School of Dental Medicine is designed to enable qualified dentists who have graduated from an acknowledged international dental school to pursue a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at our institution. This degree will allow the holder to take licensure examinations and to obtain a license to practice in the United States.
