Why Choose the SIU School of Dental Medicine Graduate Periodontics Program?

  • CODA-accredited Graduate Periodontics program at SIU SDM — inaugural class enrolled in July 2025

  • Intimate program size — only 2 residents per year, so you are never lost in a crowd; 6:1 resident to faculty ratio with daily direct mentorship

  • Full-spectrum training — non-surgical therapy through complex reconstruction, sinus augmentation, and full-arch implant rehabilitation (80–150 implants, Years 2–3)

  • Formal affiliation with Alton Memorial Hospital (BJC HealthCare) for a hospital-based anesthesia rotation and hospital employment from Day 1

  • Board-aligned curriculum — the 12-course curriculum is designed to align with ABP examination domains and includes ABP-format case reviews and annual ADEA In-Service Exam participation.

  • Required national presentation — every graduate presents scholarly work at the AAP Annual Session before certificate completion
