SOAR New Student Orientation Advising
Following are copies of the handout reviewed during your advising meeting:
After your Academic Advising appointment, please complete the following next steps:
- Attend your New Student Orientation and complete any outstanding items in the Orientation Portal.
- Complete SIUE SOAR Student Information Form & Contract
- Login to SIUE Email Account and Read, Review, and Respond to SIUE emails in timely manner. (Please call ITS at (618) 650-5500 if you need assistance with accessing email account.)
- Complete the FAFSA, and submit any required documentation. Direct financial aid & scholarship questions to the Financial Aid Office at 618-650-3880, finaid@siue.edu or schedule virtual ZOOM appointment.
- Provide Proof of Immunization electronically at cougarcare.siue.edu (your secure health portal). If assistance is needed, please contact Health Services at (618) 650-2842.
- Review the Student Health Insurance requirements If you already have health insurance, be sure to complete the insurance waiver to opt out of campus insurance.
- Submit Housing Application and Request for Meal Plan
- Register for ACCESS Accommodations (if applicable)
- Submit your final high school and college (dual credit) transcripts, and AP exam scores to etranscripts@siue.edu or mail to:

- If you have not already done so, take recommended Placement Test(s)

- Prepare for your placement test(s) using the Accuplacer Practice materials and app.
- Please email your advisor as soon as your placement test(s) are completed.
- Proficiency Exam opportunities
- Foreign Language Proficiency Exam: Recommended if you have 3-4 years of foreign language in high school

- If you are purchasing a computer for school, here are the computer spec recommendations from ITS.
- Textbook Services- most all textbooks are covered by your fees and are rentals. There are some exceptions for workbooks required for some science and math classes.

- Go to the CougarNet home page
- Under Student, click Class Registration
- View Registration Information
** Note: The Advisor Hold may still remain on your account. The hold is still there to preserve your schedule. You should still be able to access the “View Registration Information” screen.
