About the Library
Lovejoy Library was named for the abolitionist newspaper editor, Elijah Lovejoy, who was shot and killed while defending his press from a pro-slavery mob in Alton, Illinois, in 1837.

Vision
Library and Information Services: SIUE's Key to Student Success
Library and Information Services (LIS) is the intellectual heart of the campus, engaging students throughout their academic careers to ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and nurture the creation of new knowledge by providing resources, learning experiences, and spaces that empower students to achieve excellence and build a foundation of future success in their academic, professional, and civic lives.
Mission
LIS is an inclusive, multi-modal environment that stewards equitable access to our diverse cultural heritages through physical, electronic, and special/unique collections; trains our students in critical information literacy; provides adaptable and flexible learning spaces; and runs rich outreach programs.
