Description of the Program
The International Advanced Placement Program (IAPP) of the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU SDM)is a full-time, daily, Monday through Friday, 27-month program that offers qualified graduates of foreign dental programs the opportunity to earn the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. Following successful completion of an initial 3-month didactic review and intensive skills development course (Clinical Certification Course), that is designed to assure congruence with our traditional students, candidates will merge with the junior class to complete the final two years of the DMD curriculum. Graduates of the program will have acquired the requisite knowledge and skills to engage in contemporary dental practice, and be eligible to take state and regional dental licensing examinations offered in the United States.

Application process
The IAPP of SIU SDM is a participating program in ADEA–CAAPID (American Dental Education Association – Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists). To be considered for admission to the IAPP, applicants must complete the online application. The SIU SDM IAPP CAAPID Program ID number is 10250.
The CAAPID application process opens on March 7, 2024 for this cycle. It is in the best interest of the applicant to complete this process as early in the cycle as possible as interview invitations may be sent out as early as June 3, 2024. This is a rolling admissions process. However, all applications received prior to the deadline will be reviewed.
Applicants must have earned the dental degree from their dental school, and possess a final diploma prior to application to the IAPP. The application deadline for our program is June 7, 2024.
Applicants must submit a completed CAAPID application and download, complete and submit the IAPP Supplemental Application to SIU SDM, as mentioned on the Requirements and Admissions page.

Once all complete applications have been evaluated, our Admissions Team will invite the most highly qualified applicants to campus for the Interview/Bench Examination over a period of two days. Only applicants invited for interviews are required to submit official TOEFL and ECE records directly to the SIU SDM IAPP.
Following all interviews, bench examinations, and comprehensive analysis of the applicants by the Admissions Team, successful candidates will be invited to enroll in the Clinical Certification Course.
