Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Free, federal application for student financial aid
- Determines federal and state aid, as well as some scholarships, both private and institutional
- Application opens in December
- Grants, student loans and parent loans
- A required component of a college or university’s website
- Shows the potential cost of a student’s attendance at that school
- Students who fill out the FAFSA are guaranteed a certain amount of student loan money per academic year
- Parents/guardians of FAFSA filers may apply for a federal parent loan to assist their student with costs
- Alternatively, private loans are available to students, parents/guardians and others
Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- The MPN is required for federal loans to be processed
Entrance Counseling / Exit Counseling
- Entrance Counseling is required from the student to create a federal student loan
- Exit Counseling is required once a student is no longer attending at least half-time
Financial Aid for Study Abroad
- An application is available for students considering studying abroad
National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
- For student and parent loan histories
- A national scholarship search site
Refunds
- Money that is left over in the student’s account after the balance has been paid
- The Office of the Bursar is in charge of processing these refunds to the student’s designated direct deposit account
- In the absence of a direct deposit account, the Office of the Bursar will issue a paper check to the student
- All refunds that result from a Parent PLUS Loan and are designated to the parent/guardian will be issued in the form of a paper check and mailed
