Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
SIUE is pleased to support students working in conjunction with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) by providing necessary services to help students achieve their academic goals.
WIOA is designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.
SIUE provides information, certifies identified academic programs and supports students in accessing documents required to sustain enrollment in WIOA funded programs.
Students who benefit from this program may receive funding for tuition, fees and other educational expenses.
Am I Eligible for WIOA Programs & Funding?
The only guaranteed way to determine whether a student’s circumstances qualify them for WIOA funding is for the student to meet with a representative from the county employment and training department in which the student resides.
Any one or more of the following circumstances may qualify a student for WIOA funding:
- Income level
- Laid off/ dislocated workers
- Veterans
- Transitioning military members and spouses
- Under-employed adults
- Unemployed adults
- SNAP and/or TANF assistance eligible individuals
- Spouses or family members related to persons in eligible categories

- Tuition
- Fees
- Books and materials
- Testing
- Certification exams
- Licensure expenses
- Transportation
- Parking
- Childcare
- Tools
- Specialized clothing
- Supplies and technology
- Other expenses explicitly required for sustained enrollment
