Online General Education
A fully online general education path of coursework is available. These courses are for students who have not completed an associate's degree and require additional coursework. Students who wish to take an online course to transfer back to their home institution or for other reasons are considered Visiting Students and should submit a Visiting Student Application. Please contact online@siue.edu if you have questions.

Things To Know About General Education at SIUE
Foundations
All students are required to take five foundation courses that develop competencies in written and oral communication, logic and quantitative literacy that form the basis of information literacy and scientific literacy.

Breadth Areas
All students are required to take six courses which provide the opportunity to explore the breadth of human knowledge by introducing students to the principles, substance and methodology of multiple disciplines (some courses may overlap with major requirements).

All students are required to complete coursework (or an alternative approved activity) satisfying five types of experiences.
