Appeals
Parking citations are issued in accordance with the regulations and policies set forth by SIUE. If you feel that a citation was issued that does not adhere to university parking policy, you have the right to have the citation reviewed to determine the circumstances and validity of the citation.
An appeal may not be filed without a $5 partial payment. If the appeal is granted, a credit is applied to accounts receivable. The appeal must be written and payment made within 14 calendar days immediately following the date of the citation. All appeals must be accompanied with a written explanation of the reason for your appeal to be considered.
Appeals may be submitted by mail or online. When submitting an appeal online a written explanation for the reason of the appeal must be submitted with it, otherwise the appeal will not be reviewed. If an individual chooses the mail option, they must enclose a check to cover the partial payment of the citation and must allow enough mailing time to stay within the 14 calendar day limit. Appeals submitted more than 14 calendar days after the citation was issued will not be accepted.
Once an appeal has been properly submitted, Parking Service staff will review the details of the citation and the documentation provided with the appeal and determine the result of the appeal within the parameters set within the university's parking regulations. If the appeal is denied, it may be further appealed to the Parking and Traffic Appeals Committee. The individual is invited to attend the Appeals Committee hearing; attendance is not mandatory, however. Parking Services notifies the appellant of the date of the hearing and the status of the appeal after each step. The decision of the Appeals Committee is binding.
Citations or summons directing the alleged violator to State court must be appealed in accordance with State law.
