Student Ceremonies & Scholarly Projects
White Coat Ceremony
The White Coat Ceremony conveys the School’s commitment to professionalism, respect, integrity and caring—hallmarks of the pharmacy profession. It also underscores the students’ commitment to provide pharmaceutical care and to assure the safe and effective use of medication for the benefit of the patient and society. This ceremony marks the transition from students to student pharmacists.
Pinning Ceremony
The year three (P3) class participates in a Pinning Ceremony every year during the month of April. Receipt of the pin marks the end of the didactic portion of the curriculum and serves as a symbol of accomplishment as students embark on their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs).
ImPaCT Poster Presentation
The final element of the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) program is the ImPaCT Project (Improving Patient Care for Tomorrow) rotation during which students design and complete a project in cooperation with a mentor and under the guidance of the ImPaCT Coordinator in Experiential Education. Through the development and completion of scholarly projects, students integrate and apply content and skills acquired over the pharmacy curriculum subsequently documenting the achievement of educational outcomes and professional competencies. Students conduct their projects in practice environments that most interest them. This project requires a minimum of 160 hours non-concurrent with other APPE rotations. To learn more about the ImPaCT projects, visit the ImPaCT Program page.
Hooding and Commencement Ceremony
During this ceremony, the dean of the SIUE School of Pharmacy and the SIUE Provost place the doctoral hoods upon the shoulders of each graduate in a final outward mark of acknowledgement for each student’s educational achievement. Graduates then take the Oath of the Pharmacist and the SIUE Chancellor confers their degrees.
