Pregnancy and New Parenting Accommodations
Some accommodation examples may include, but are not limited to:
- Allowing breaks and frequent trips to the restroom during class, as needed
- Flexibility with attendance including excused absences due to pregnancy or related conditions as long as deemed medically necessary
- Medical leave of absence, including allowing the student to return to the same academic and extracurricular status as before the medical leave began
- Assistance with heavy lifting
- A private space for expressing milk
- Providing alternatives to make up missed work due to pregnancy or childbirth
- Parking and transportation issues
- Flexibility in the administration of exams (including rescheduling and extensions)
- Providing pregnant students with the same special services as other students with temporary medical conditions including independent study, remote classrooms, or other similar types of academic adjustments
- Allowing the student to continue participating in off-campus programs such as internships or career rotations
Lactation Spaces
Lactation Spaces are available for students, employees, and visitors. The lactation rooms are designed to provide a clean and private space for pumping or expressing breastmilk conveniently located near academic and workspaces. The permanent spaces are furnished with a comfortable chair, refrigerator, side table, and, where possible, a sink.
