International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP)
What is the International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP)?
The ISMP is a structured mentorship program designed to foster meaningful connections between continuing students and new international students at SIUE. The ISMP aims to support the transition and integration of international students by pairing them with mentors who provide guidance and friendship throughout the semester.
The ISMP assigns each mentee a mentor who acts as a guide and friend during their first semester. Mentors often invite mentees to participate in campus activities and social gatherings. The ISMP sponsors various events to facilitate these interactions and promote cultural exchange.
Who are the Mentors?
Mentors are caring and supportive continuing students, either international or domestic, who wish to help new international students acclimate to SIUE and U.S. culture.
Mentors may offer advice on navigating campus life, academic resources, and social integration. They aim to be a friend and resource.
Mentors should not assist with financial, immigration, or academic issues. These matters should be directed to the Office of International Affairs.
Who are the Mentees?
Mentees are new first-semester undergraduate international students who seek guidance and support in acclimating to SIUE and U.S. culture. They benefit from the experience of their mentors, who help them navigate their new environment and integrate into the campus community.
Mentees can seek advice on various aspects of campus life, including academic resources, social integration, and cultural adjustment. They should communicate their needs and preferences openly and participate in planned activities.
How do I sign up for ISMP?
New international students are invited to participate in the International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP).
